Where to Buy Your First Pair of Salsa Shoes

Are you ready to step into dance shoes that will further ease you into the dance floor? If so, I’ve put together a short list of where to shop for your first pair of dance shoes, based on your practice level.

Price Points are measured from $ - $$$ where $ is lower in cost vs $$$ which is higher in cost.

Capezio Flagship Store

For beginners, taking one to two classes a week for at least three months and looking to stay consistent, check out Capezio in Manhattan.

Rows of Choices

Ladies, you can find shoe options in the sections of Social Dance, DanceSport Jazz, and Dance Sneakers. Men options can be found in DanceSport or DanceSneakers.

Capezio offers a lot of ballet, jazz, and contemporary clothing as well so don’t be surprised when you walk in and see hundreds of tutus and dance outfits!

On Stage Dancewear

OnStage is also for beginners who have been taking classes for at least three months consistently. Just note that this is a much smaller location with limited space.

197 Madison Ave, New York, NY 100162.6 mi

Price Point: $$

Limited Selection

With fewer choices sometimes it’s easier to make a faster decision. Again, these will definitely be more of your practice shoes and shoes that you can take to socials and not worry too much about really putting to good use for your first year.

There are much fewer options for men here.

Worldtone Dance

If you are looking to spend more time dancing and training, and want the best quality

580 8th Ave, New York, NY 100182.7 mi

Price Point: $$$

View your options online first if you’d like, otherwise, you can go into the store where they have a really nice showroom to try on shoes.

GFranco Dance Shoes

GFranco has more contemporary designs at an affordable price. My only concern for someone on their first purchase is that you won’t be able to try it on first. However, in all my experiences of purchasing from GFranco, they have been true to size. Worst-case scenario, if they don’t fit well, you can view their return and exchange policies for options.

Click Your Way Through

Great variety of options for men and women that actually feel like regular shoes in some cases and may want to wear out for other socializing events.
